Casper 2.0

I have been trying to get some stuff done during my staycation this year. The interior is almost fully re-installed. I still need to get to a stereo shop or a trim shop to find 1" insulation because End of the Roll doesn't carry automotive materials. I am also missing the bracket that holds the front of the shifter console to the floor, the automatics are different than the standards. Otherwise it is finished and right comfortable with the OE sound system.
I have set of power lock actuators from the Netherlands I think I will get in today. It's just a bolt in proposition.
I replaced the turbo down pipe with a good unit Kevin Puhl had. I hammered out the old O2 and replaced it with a new one and managed to get the bolt for the anchor bracket out and transferred to the newer pipe. A nice feature of this one is it still has all of its heat shielding and looks factory for the first time. Lots of anti-seize on everything and a new donut sealed the seal. I also discovered an oil leak at the stud for the anchor bracket. I found it penetrates the block so some teflon tape should have cured that.
Last night after the repairs I took my Oddna out for an 8th street cruise and a Wendy's frosty. Casper was quiet and rattle free, just as the engineering gods intended.

Really big day for me yesterday
1st. it was payday so I dropped my MKI head and short block in the mail to Mike Cove at 3Tech for all the best goodies.
2nd I got word today from Hungary that a replacement Torsen has been sent via an alternate method and that it should be here in a week.
3rd ordered a new drivers door outside handle
4th paid for a boost controller and a boost gauge, they should be here in a week thank you Martin Lachapelle.
This means I might have a chance to get a run in this year at SIR digs. I'm hoping for a solid low 15 second time with the addition of the aluminum pulley, aluminum flywheel, centerforce clutch and the 4.39 with the torsen, plus a little added boost!

It's supposed to be 28 degrees C Saturday (very unusual here this time of year) and I'm trying to think of things to do to keep me outside during the day. Fixing the audible alarms shouldn't really take a long time. I don't have any other things to do to Casper really unless I get the Torsen. I'll briefly be a busy guy if that arrives. I still need to go to a car audio shop and see if they sell automotive insulation for my former back seat and boot areas, End of the Roll was a bust. I didn't like the carpet they had either, no substance to it. Maybe a trip to the wreckers will yield a suitable carpet.

The Torsen has arrived and it is in the case. The 4.39:1 tranny, aluminum flywheel and Centerforce clutch go in today.

What a day, I'm beat. Got an early start and finished up the install only to find the car wouldn't shift into gear when the engine is running because the clutch would not disengage. No amount of adjusting would work so out it came again thinking I may have installed the disc backwards. The installation was correct, it was the clutch disc that was the issue so I ditched the Centerforce for the gt clutch. Finished it in the rain and Casper road tested fine.
Weirdest feeling ever though, it wants to go straight. It's like it has power steering but only on the return side of a steering event. It snaps back to centre when you let go of the wheel. Peels both wheels, kinda cool. I notice extra zip with the 4.39 and the engine revs way faster when I free rev it with the aluminum flywheel. I was right, the speedo is correct now.
I cleaned the negative cable where it bolts to the tranny and Casper starts better now, starter turns way faster.

The frustrating about the clutch.
What ratio tranny did you have in before?
What’s the install like on the torsen?

I believe the hub that rides the input shaft spline is too tall toward the tranny side and wont let the release bearing fully disengage the clutch.
It was a two spider 4.10 from a twelve inch tire car, this 4.39 was out of a MKIV/MKV thirteen inch tire car.
The Torsen was drop in, I built the the tranny in my living room. The input/output/reaction shafts were rebuilt by a friend. No special tools needed.
If you are looking for any of these things I will gladly forward the contact information.

We had a heck of a storm settle over us this past weekend here in Saskatoon. Woke up to 35cm on the ground Monday morning. With the Torsen LSD and the 15/80r/13 snow tires Casper was unstoppable where even four wheel drives were having difficulty.
I put an oil pan heater on Casper in September and have had a few chances to use it so far. One of the best improvements I have ever made. The engine turns over like it's summer time, does NOT make the cacophony of cold noise it used to and I have useable heat within a kilometer of my home, amazing!
The monster MKI G10T is in thee middle of being redone. I sent a care package to Mike Cove at 3Tech with oil pan, oil pump, crank sensor, crank pulley with a 6 point reluctor, water pump, timing belt, adjustable timing gear, tensioner assembly and the rocker cover and a tube of Ultra-Grey to allow for the engine to be shipped sealed and timed.
My next investment will be the stand alone fuel management system. I am thinking a Megasquirt 3 should fit my needs pretty well but I am open to suggestions as there are other systems available too such as Speeduino.
