so, short of doing an oil change in my shop all other work has been suspended for now... :o
waiting on other companies time-frames to get stuff done. one week wait for the spray-foam, then when they came out they had issues with their powerplant, then they ran out of chemical- only got half-way up the walls with the spray foam.
then my overhead door had issues-had to call a guy out for that.
called a guy out for estimate for blown-in insulation for the shop (and house- need to do a few things to get that done)
bought a new overhead furnace. bought 2-56'' ceiling fans. new outside led lights (installed already, wiring ran for them)
ran wiring thru the studs for 20 amp outdoor plug-ins.
added bracing and ''pusher'' springs to the overhead door track.
all the other electrical will be thru emt tubing, to be done after the walls and ceiling are done.

yup, very empty before the job starts....

they are going to be out tomorrow to finish the spray-foam job. even their supplier was out of chemical

even with the walls only done 1/2 way up I notice a difference.

Nice! We should start a thread so that members can post their "man" caves. I remember when Phil (Pacapo) called me up from Cabazon, CA to tell me he had purchased a property that had a garage that was big enough to fit his entire collection of 7(?) vehicles in.

that's the finished product. made the shop really stiff,no air can pass thru the walls now. 3 inches of foam.
now to put up some backing for the poly and tin to attach to. will be borrowing a manlift to get that job done.
somewhat sidelined myself, had to go to emergency to get a piece of steel out of my eye this morning.
very tiny piece of steel, must have made it past my glasses :x

shop parts are piling up quickly, cant get the manlift this week-end, but there are other things that I can get done. bought some lighting for in the shop, 8-4' dual tube led fixtures, for over and under the mezzanine. trying to buy what I need when its on sale...these lights were $38 each.

another long week-end, no manlift yet....but still doing other things around the shop. waiting on home depot (I hate that fucking place) but they are the only place that have the proper gable end vents that I need. they had 3, I need 4. been waiting almost 3 weeks for the forth one to arrive. no other store in my ''zone'' have the vents I need....
Calgary stores show stock, but they are not in my ''zone'' (but Regina sk is?) and they cant transfer a vent from a store if its not in their ''zone''
for fucks sake Calgary is three hours away send one to medicine hat for a paying customer ignore your stupid fucked up ''rules'' and ''zones''
if that vent is not here by the end of the week I will drive to Calgary, get the vent I need, then go back to the medicine hat home depot, get my money back (cuz I have already paid for the 4th vent ) and proceed to tell them that they are a useless home reno company with even more useless people hired to only tell you that they don't work in this department...
was there yesterday looking for some lights, 1st guy in the lighting department I ask tells me'' its not my department''
next guy I ask disappears for almost 10 minutes, brings me a print-out of LAST WEEKS SALE FLYER, NOT THE CURRENT ONE
then proceeds to tell me that'' I am only a stock counter,i know nothing about this department or where stuff is'' :x
then I go to customer service, to ask about my vent. girl behind counter rolls her eyes, gets off her phone, goes over to the computer , punches in my phone #, tells me its not in. I ask her when its expected to arrive....
she is not sure, it depends on how many are allocated to what ''zone'' needs them the most....WTF HERE WE GO AGAIN WITH THE FUCKING ''ZONE'' SPEECH AGAIN

DID I MENTION I HATE HOME DEPOT? NOT SURE IF I MENTIONED THAT YET.

That's messed up man, I like Home Depot, they are my go to store here, but they have never done any crap like that to me.

running my wiring for the existing garage door opener, and 220 power for my air compressor. I removed all the existing wiring so they could spray-foam everywhere.

i have totes full of electrical stuff, and rolls of various wire types, from different job-sites i have been on. it pays to dumpster dive, or know the right people when they are renovating/ building a new place. if a connector or box hits the floor most electricians around here dont even pick them up, they just grab another part and keep going.
if a label is damaged on a roll of wire (but no damage to the wire) it gets tossed out- even if the wire has printing on it....
thats how i got 2 of my almost full rolls of 14/2 wire (150 ft/roll) and another two almost full rolls of 14/2 bx cable- they fell off the man-lift at a jobsite, broke the spools they are on, labels came off and the head electrician refused to use them.
it is insane how much wire gets tossed out on million dollar jobs, even the smaller contracts have the ''cost plus'' in their contract, so the end user gets billed more anyways.

it was 9 pm last night when I flipped the breakers on, had outside lights, garage door opener working. then went upstairs and flipped the switch on my air compressor, and it roared to life, quickly building pressure 8-)
its a large 150 gallon (I think) 5 hp upright unit, 18 cfm @ 175 psi. bought it years ago from a rental place, like new, paid $700 for it. it retails for $2700
I might get the man-lift this week-end. need to measure for the tin for the inside of the shop. run more wiring for the lights under the mezzanine.
its getting cooler out, it makes for slower progress pulling wire. need heat soon in the shop.

was still waiting on home depot in Medicine Hat for my last gable end vent; boss was going to Calgary to look at a job, so I asked if he could pick one up for me. 8-)

later in the day I went to my local home depot and got my money back for the vent that never arrived, 4 weeks + and no vent. when I could just drive 3 hours away and get one, but they couldn't , cuz that store isn't in their ''zone'' . I will really try not to ever ever enter the doors of that insignificunt business ever again.
I deem home depot as the ''week-end warriors worst line of defense'' if you want people to boost your ego telling you that you can do it, when really you should get a pro involved in planning your shit out if you haven't the single clue what to do.
I guess I myself am lucky enough to be in touch or direct contact with other trades to make great relationships when it comes to getting stuff done around my house for relatively cheap.
no lift again this week-end. the other guy isn't quite done with it, he has one wall to finish and lights to install in his paintbooth.
funny thing is his paintbooth is in a bay that my boss is renting to him....so I don't have to go far to see if he is done or not with the manlift.
will order tin sometime next week. need to measure for emt pipe, and pick that up.
need to test fit a 6'' led recessed downlight, check the beam spread , figure out how many I actually need... the area calls for 7.2- 6'' lights....

spent over $1000 yesterday on electrical stuff yesterday....and still don't have it all...
my boss picked up my 4th vent while he was in Calgary over the week-end, installed that last night. 8-)
on sunday I finished the outside plug-ins, 2 separate 20 amp circuits, gfci plugs in weathertight boxes. sheeted the upper walls over the mezzanine, only half-way up..need that ceiling done first.

finally! brought the man-lift home on Friday. I ordered MOST of the tin for the inside of my shop on Wednesday, I forgot to measure a few areas, had to e-mail those sizes to the tin place. Friday morning I agreed to the invoice for the tin, it was all ready later that day.
so I borrowed a truck and trailer from work, brought the manlift home Friday night and unloaded it into the shop.
Saturday morning I went out and picked up the tin . I took the day off work, my boss is good to me.
got that home, then started inside the shop with a few minor things that I needed the lift for, then started on the ceiling vapour barrier...
3 people on the lift ,10 feet up in the air , trying to install 8 foot wide x 40 foot long plastic....but its almost all sealed, just a small section above the mezz that needs to be finished. that was enough for one day.

some picsIMG_1658.JPGIMG_1657.JPG

got all the j-trim installed around ceiling and walls, then called it a day around 6:30
now for the roof sheeting, then call the insulation guy.

IMG_1660.JPG

got almost the entire ceiling done by 7pm Saturday. there was a 40'x20'' strip on the ceiling against the west wall that I finished sunday morning, then mounted the tracks for the bay door (the brackets lined up perfectly with the tin !) and the j-trim fit and finish around the attic hatch access.

moved the tin inside for the walls, started on the corner where the ceiling mounted heater will be installed. need to mount heater to get gas pipe installed in the right place, as well as the exhaust venting thru the wall for the furnace.

insulation guy is coming out Tuesday 7 am.

this is a slow process, but its coming along.... 8-)

insulation is done!! 8-) it took the company less than 2 hrs to ''top up'' my house to r60, and fill the shop attic space to r60. the estimate was almost $4,400 to get it done....when it get the bill in the mail I will know the final price.
I get a ''green energy'' rebate of almost $400 on the house, but the shop doesn't qualify for the program.

now the boss wants the back-hoe returned, he has it rented out for a job...gotta get my digging done tonight for the pad where the propane tank is going to be placed.
getting a 500 gallon propane tank for the furnace in the shop.

I had to sheet the interior walls with 3/8 osb, in order for the tin to be installed properly. I tried attaching the tin to the studs, it went really wavy between the studs, looked terrible. one more expense not in the budget.
great news, the other night it was -17*c outside, but a balmy +6*c in the shop, and that's with NO HEAT WHATSOEVER in the shop. :)
