What did you do to your Swift today

dropped the driveline out of the kids car- oil leak between trans and engine, clutch slipping-

Rear main seal was pushed out of its bore at the bottom, rubbing against a lip on the flywheel , wore a hole thru the seal...

cleaned up and installed a new seal, with pematex around the outer edge of the seal to help hold it in place-then the re-surfaced flywheel, new clutch kit and bearings-

Then the boy mentioned the temp was over 1/2 while driving- so change the t-stat- the housings had very minor leaks and needed to be fixed anyways. installed new gaskets and a 180* t-stat , for the summer hot months-
Then found that the water pump was leaking from the weep hole- so change the water pump as well.
timing belt was still in good shape, so re-tension it with just the spring, and lock the idler down in place.

Today, possible new mounts, flush heater core and rad while driveline is out, install driveline , and a new fuel filter.

too bad the old clutch disc shows hardly any wear, the machine marks still on the flywheel- but from being covered in engine oil, it is junk.

kid blew a heater hose just before he got home- further inspection, the hose was damaged when the pliers bit the hose-
no damage to the engine, just the kids hurt feelings.....ha ha
actually didnt lose much coolant. replaced hose, and away we go !!!

new rotors and brake pads on the kids car. he changed another leaking oil pressure idiot light switch sensor, i changed the water pump.

trying to chase down an odd cooling issue....

cooling issue somewhat resolved- installed another dual core rad. now cools better. rad must be plugged.

ordered a new , all aluminum rad.

rad arrived last saturday. went to install- the new rad has the tabs welded on crooked, as well as the one tab is too narrow for the fan shroud mounting ear to fit into.
now fighting with ebay and the seller about a replacement.

for today? adjust the washer sprayer nozzle (installed dual nozzle spray heads from a sedan)
adjust the clutch- hasnt been done since the install a few weeks ago-
kids complains about a sticking brake caliper- has said it has pulled the steering wheel out of his hands, pulling hard to the left....
hmm- i drove the car yesterday, braked hard a few times, did not notice anything....will look into it.

replacement caliper fixed the brake dragging issue.

ordered ANOTHER rad, from a different seller- still fighting with ebay over the first , incorrectly built rad.

installed aluminum rad in kids car, filled it with coolant. went for lunch. came back, coolant on the floor- water pipe o-ring had failed.

drop coolant AGAIN, remove pipe, remove cracked o-ring, clean pipe, install new o-ring, install coolant. test drive, park back inside, no leaks !!!

now for the wheel alignment later today on russel...

fixed the inop blend door lever on the kids car. popped off of its pivot inside the dash, lever was slightly bent...lubed cable , blend door cams and pivot points- still has a sticky spot, but its not the cable or lever- the heater box may have internal issues.

i dont want to pull the dash AGAIN to change / repair the hvac box- so i told the wife and kid to be gentle with the lever, and it works just fine.

i have 3M kits with arbors that fit a hand-drill...different grits for different finishes. clean clean clean is the first step
then sand and use LOTS OF WATER (spray bottle) and keep that plastic wet and cool. get it hot, the plastic ''swirls'' and then its a pain to remove that swirl mark.
The kits will have different grades of sandpaper, 800 grit being the second last step, then polish using supplied polish w/ waterIMG_2422.JPGIMG_2423.JPGIMG_2424.JPGIMG_2425.JPGIMG_2427.JPG
Phillips make a headlamp polishing kit as well.

That came out great much better than when I've tried it.
:D

too many times people rush it when polishing headlamps- and then say the kits dont work. follow the steps, dont skip any, and use LOTS of water.

I also think the key may be your power drill there, I've only tried to do it with the by hand kits, and boy that is a pain.

changed a failed map sensor on the kids car- code 31-grabbed a used map sensor from the parts bin, installed and fixed !!! something easy , for once...

some parts arrived , in the mail, late due to the postal strike-(how convenient, strike at Christmas time !!) almost a month late.
new inner door handle for one car, new top strut mounts for another car (as well as new struts)
its my last day off from work, should be able to get these two small items done today-
